The Councillor for Tourism, Gelen Delgado, has presented the official program of the event ‘The Way of the Emperor’, a cultural initiative that commemorates the historic journey of Emperor Charles V as he passed through Talavera de la Reina, and to be held from 15 to 18 October in different parts of the city.

This was announced at a press conference accompanied by the managing director of the Cooperation Network of the Routes of Emperor Charles V, Quintin Correas, and the president of the Association of Pilgrims to Guadalupe, Diego Hernandez, “to whom he thanked for their work and involvement for this initiative has been launched.

The mayor stressed that ‘The Way of the Emperor’ is a “very special event that allows us to value our historical and cultural heritage, reinforcing the identity of Talavera within the European network of the Routes of Charles V”.

In addition, he noted that from the Department of Tourism saw a perfect opportunity to carry out this event, “as it marks the V centenary of the passage of Emperor Charles V through the city,” on his way to the monastery of Guadalupe, “and that the idea is to become an annual event to continue betting on our history and remember a crucial moment of it.”

CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES

The activities will begin on Wednesday, October 15 at 18:00 hours with the lecture ‘European Cultural Itinerary of Charles V’, given by Quintín Correas Domingo, managing director of the Cooperation Network of the Routes of the Emperor Charles V, at the Women’s Center (Calle Segurilla, 35).

On Thursday, October 16, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a show cooking dedicated to the gastronomy of the Emperor’s era by Fogones Imperiales, at Talavera Ferial (Pavilion 3) (by invitation only).

On Friday, October 17, also at 6:00 p.m., Professor Carlos Belloso Martín, from the University of Valladolid, will give a lecture on “Charles V and Talavera” at the La Milagrosa Center, next to the station.

The final touch will come on Saturday, October 18 with the expected Imperial Parade, which will start at 17:00 hours from the Basilica of Our Lady of Prado. The route will be decorated with flags and decorations of the time and will pass through Arcos del Prado, Salvador Allende, Ronda del Cañillo, Carnicerías, Plaza del Reloj, Corredera del Cristo, Calle Palenque and will end at the Plaza del Pan, where at 19:00 hours the institutional act will be held.

Delgado explained that for this parade the different schools in the city have been invited to participate, so far there are four schools confirmed and more than 200 people registered. The costumes are provided by the Asociación de Vecinos Fray Hernando, and there are still places available to sign up at the Tourist Office.

Later, at 7:15 p.m., there will be a performance of 16th century dances in honor of the Emperor by three dance academies of the city (Sal y Canela, Tempo and Aires de Calera).

The mayor has invited all citizens, residents of the region and visitors to participate in the activities and enjoy the historical atmosphere that will fill the streets during the parade.

For his part, Quintín Correas wanted to emphasize that this type of initiative has “a great projection not only nationally but also internationally”, and that it will have “a positive impact on the city of Talavera”.
