The mayor of Tourism and Crafts, Gelen Delgado, has accompanied the residents of the neighborhood Puerta de Cuartos in the pottery workshop held at the Ceramics Factory Santos Timoneda, as part of the activities of CeramiTUR and on the occasion of the festivities of the neighborhood.
Delgado emphasized that this activity, in which most of the participants were children, had the objective of bringing the ceramic tradition closer to the local population, allowing its neighbors to experience first-hand the modeling of clay and the potter’s wheel, guided by master potters.
The neighborhood of Puerta de Cuartos is historically linked to ceramics, since for decades it housed the main industries and potteries of Talavera de la Reina, being a reference in the artisan production of the city.
The activity was designed as a practical and intergenerational experience, where children and adults shared creative learning and reinforced pride in a craft that is part of the identity of their own neighborhood.
The CeramiTUR program is promoted by the Spanish Association of Ceramic Cities and coordinated at the local level by the City Council of Talavera de la Reina, through the Department of Crafts and Tourism, with funding from the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Next Generation EU, under Council Regulation (EU) 2020/2094.
With initiatives like this one, CeramiTUR continues to bring ceramics closer to its neighbors and to enhance the value of the neighborhoods that are a living part of this tradition.
