The mayor of Tourism and Crafts, Gelen Delgado, has attended the second session of the first full training course CeramiTUR aimed at members of the Association of Large Families of Talavera in the ceramic factory Santos Timoneda, in which participants decorated the clay pieces that had modeled ten days earlier.
During the day, the families were able to complete all the phases of the craft process (modeling, drying, firing and decoration), understanding first-hand that ceramics requires time, precision and a lot of patience. The workshop showed the difficulty of the ceramic craft, from the initial elaboration to the moment when the piece is ready for final decoration.
Each participant personally chose the piece they were most pleased with from among all the ones they had made to paint and finish it, which made the experience even more special. “Having in our hands a piece created entirely by ourselves makes us appreciate the work of the artisans much more,” commented several attendees.
This course, designed as a practical and intergenerational training, has allowed families to connect with the local ceramic tradition and reinforce pride in one of Talavera’s most emblematic trades.
The CeramiTUR program is promoted by the Spanish Association of Ceramic Cities and coordinated at the local level by the City Council of Talavera de la Reina, through the Department of Tourism and Crafts, with funding from the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Next Generation EU, under Council Regulation (EU) 2020/2094.
