Musealization of the Isla de la Cerámica Center

The musealisation of the Centro Isla de la Cerámica has now been inaugurated. It represents the transformation of the former “Virgen del Pilar” Hydroelectric Power Station into an innovative cultural space where art, technology, history and sustainability come together to offer a unique immersive experience.

What it offers

  • Augmented reality, immersive projections and interactive audiovisual content.
  • A narrative on the history of Talavera ceramics, its artisanal processes and its close connection with the TajoRiver.
  • Original pieces, interactive replicas, light and sound installations, and educational content.
  • Experimental areas and participatory workshops for all audiences.

Sustainability, efficiency and accessibility

  • Design based on energy-efficiency criteria (efficient lighting and climate control) and smart technologies to reduce consumption.
  • Compliance with the DNSH principle (“Do No Significant Harm”) and circular economy principles: use of recyclable and non-harmful materials and reuse of over 70% of construction waste.
  • Universal accessibility: inclusive routes, clear signage and adaptations for different visitor profiles.

The Centre has become a benchmark for efficient and sustainable museums, aligned with the SDGs and European ecological transition policies, integrating the Tajo River environment into its exhibition narrative.

The musealisation of the Centro Isla de la Cerámica projects Talavera’s ceramic legacy towards new generations.
