Ecological restoration in the urban stretch of the Tajo River, aimed at improving ecosystem health, strengthening biodiversity and reconnecting the river with the city, has now been implemented.
What has been done
- More than 65,000 m² of riverbank: cleaning, conditioning and environmental improvement.
- Sanitation pruning and safety trimming of 180 trees to ensure their health and stability.
- Removal of invasive species and restoration of native flora.
- Selective clearing and cleaning of herbaceous and shrub vegetation, encouraging the development of the riverside forest.
- Controlled removal of fast-growing species (e.g. brambles) that hinder the natural growth of trees.
Respect for protected vegetation and for the biological cycles of wildlife.
Benefits for the city
- Improved environmental quality and increased biodiversity.
- Recovery of the landscape and enhancement of the Tajo as a natural, cultural and leisure space.
- A cleaner, healthier and more accessible environment for walking, birdwatching and enjoying outdoor activities.
